Salem's Communication
How did Salem's isolation affect its activities?
In 1692 the town of Salem was surrounded by woods and forests. The geographic location of Salem isolated it from other towns. Overtime, the people of Salem had to develop a strong will to survive because they were by themselves, with no resources from other towns. In 1692 being a part of church in Salem was extremely important. If you were not a member you would have been considered an enemy to the church and most likely shunned upon in society. Church dictated everything: what people wore, how they acted, and how they were to be punished. Salem being so isolated, never had a flow of new ideas coming in at any time, leaving the people of Salem to follow the same routine all the time.
The children of Salem had to be brought up to be strong and carry on their important childhood religion. The children rarely played games, and were not even able to show emotion. These ideas were said to be "sinful distractions" by the Puritans and churches. Instead of playing games children were expected to read and practice the bible. In 1692 Salem, was considered "behind" compared to it's distant neighbors.
